In May
1997, Garry Kasparov, the then reigning World Chess Champion was
defeated by IBM's Deep Blue Supercomputer in a fascinating game
followed in real time via the web by millions of chess and computing
fans. IWEC2002 will test NEC's
ability to produce "intelligent" machines by staging another
board game competition between a computer and a human, this time
a former champion in "Othello"
[also known as "Reversi"].
